About the artist. Born David Lee Theyre Elliott in 1903 (we aren’t exactly sure when or why he rearranged his given name) this interesting artist first made his reputation in the 1930s as designer of some classic Art Deco logos such as the Imperial Airways Speedbird and the Royal Mail’s Air Mail symbol (many more of his designs can be seen in the Victorian and Albert Museum’s collection ).

Feb 04, 2011 · David Theyre Lee-Elliott went from Winchester to Cambridge and thence to The Slade School of art and lived in Chelsea all his life, dying at the age of 85 in 1988. He never married but had seven nephews and nieces.

He was educated at Winchester and Magdalene College, Cambridge where he read theology but was a high jump champion, won a Blue for lawn tennis and represented England at table tennis.
