Artist biography. Tim Burns was born in Sydney in 1960. He has received a Diploma of Art – Alexander Mackie CAE Sydney, a Post Graduate Diploma – Victorian Collage of the Arts Melbourne, and a Master of Fine Art – University of Tasmania. He taught painting and drawing at the University of Tasmania from 1988 to 1998 and undertook residencies at Bruny Island in 1990 1991 and 2005.

He rose to notoriety in the early 1970s with a series of (literally) explosive art actions, before decamping to New York, where he remained, on and off until the mid-1990s. He now resides on a large property near the town of York, in Western Australia.
