José Antonio Velásquez was born in Caridad, Honduras in 1906. In 1931, José Antonio Velásquez married Raquel Maradiaga. After the death of her parents, Velásquez left Caridad and moved to Tegucigalpa in search of better living conditions. Velásquez came to love Tegucigalpa so much that he became the inspiration for most of his works.
