Victor Ostrovsky Born in 1949 in Canada, Victor moved to Israel at the age of five. His inclination for the arts was apparent from a very early age. The well known Israeli painter, Giladi, lived on the same street and would often set up his easel outdoors to paint.

At eighteen years of age, Second Lieutenant Victor Ostrovsky was the youngest officer in the Israeli armed forces (Navy).

He is saying goodbye, but only because an operation demands it. Ostrovsky painted Farewell in 1999, and included the World Trade Center towers in the background as a way to symbolize New York City. After September 11, 2001, however, an additional interpretation became evident. Appropriately, Ostrovsky had named this painting Farewell.
