African-American artist Walter Henry Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York, August 11, 1920. He studied art at the Brooklyn Museum Art School with Ben Shahn, Reuben Tam and Gregorio Prestopino under the G.I. Bill between 1951 and 1955 and began to exhibit his work in 1954.

Walter Henry Sweet (1889 - 1943) A prolific West country artist who painted street scenes, moorland views and seascapes. Born on 11th April 1889 and studied at Exeter School of Art under the guidance of his friend John Shapland. He worked locally and exhibited at the Devon and Exeter Annual Exhibition at the Elands Gallery in the early 1900's.
