Jul 02, 2007 · Born in 1924, MacKenzie is recognized by many as the American master of ceramic art in the mingei tradition. He began his artist career as a hard-edge painter at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met Alix Kolesky. After serving in the Army in Yokohama, Japan, during WWII in he returned to Chicago, on the GI Bill.
