After working with the Forest Service, he joined the navy and acquired experience on battleships, cruisers, and destroyer escorts. In 1976 Bond returned to New York, where he began painting square-rigged ships.

Willard Bond 1926 - 2012. Born in 1926, Willard Bond served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. While stationed in Chicago, Bond attended night school at Chicago Institute of Art. He graduated from Pratt Institute in 1949, and spent 2 additional years at the Art Students League in NY. After 15 years of the SoHo scene, Bond shifted his artistic interests back to that of the Sea.
