Willard Nash was one of the famous Los Cinco Pintores and was probably the most relaxed of the group. He had a patron from the East who sent him a check every month so that he could work without worry. As a result, he never had to paint a painting for “sellable” reasons. He painted what he wanted.

He went on to amateur boxing and worked as a commercial artist at the age of 16 during the middle of the depression. Detroit Art School beckoned and he studied under John P. Wicker.
