Kent Hagerman, also known as William Kay Hagerman, was born in Ohio in 1893. He studied at the Cleveland School of Art and the Sorbonne in Paris while serving in France during World War I. He began his career producing newspaper and magazine illustrations. He and his brother Gale operated an engraving company in Denver.
