William Martin was born in Mexico City in 1953, and at age three moved to Los Angeles, California, with his family. Growing up, he spent summers with his siblings and cousins visiting his grandparents in Queretaro, Mexico, at their small hotel in the country. During his twenties, William apprenticed himself to a successful artist in Hollywood. He has a natural gift and quickly picked up the skills.

William Henry Martin was born in South San Francisco on January 22, 1943. He received his BFA and MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute, and is the author of the books Paintings 1969-1979 and the aforementioned Lost Legends. Bill taught at the University of California, Berkeley, the San Francisco Art Institute and the Academy of Art University.
