Woodstock, New York The Woodstock Artists Cemetery is officially operated by the Woodstock Memorial Society, the original 80 foot by 100 foot plot of land was purchased by John Kingsbury following the tragic death of his son. Additional land was purchased and the Woodstock Memorial Society was incorporated on November 4, 1934.

Jan 29, 2018 · Situated on a hill above Woodstock’s Evergreen Cemetery, the Artist’s Cemetery was founded in 1934 by John Kingsbury, after he lost his 19-year-old son. “His son was killed in a tragic accident,” said Heppner. “Kingsbury went to look at the Evergreen Cemetery for a plot and kept wandering up the hill.”
